Weight Loss Transformation
September 2020 to May 2023

My Story

It was September 2020, and I found myself struggling to put on my socks. The simple task of bending down seemed impossible, and I knew something had to change. At 28 years old and weighing 165kg (26 Stone), I was obese and unhappy with my life. I had always been interested in boxing, but I never thought it was something I could pursue seriously. However, that day, I decided to make a plan to become a professional boxer within three years. It was a lofty goal, but I was determined to make it happen.

Since then, my life has changed dramatically. I lost 12 Stone in 12 months and beaten my food addiction, and learned one of the toughest sports in the world. I have had an active amateur boxing career and am now turning my attention to the professional game. My story has been featured in national and international papers and articles written by LadBible, Men’s Health, and even Boxing News. I also featured on Channel 4 show Body SOS Send Nudes telling my story of weight loss and the issue with loose skin. My goal is to show that anything is possible with commitment, hard work, and finding something that drives you.

Overcoming Food Addiction

My journey to becoming a professional boxer started with overcoming my food addiction. Like many people, I turned to food for comfort and found myself in a vicious cycle of overeating and feeling guilty. I knew I had to break this cycle if I wanted to achieve my goal.

It wasn’t easy, but I started by making small changes to my diet. I cut out processed foods and started cooking my meals from scratch. I also started tracking my calories and making sure I was in a calorie deficit. It was a slow process, but eventually, I started seeing results. As the weight started to come off, I became more motivated to stick to my plan.

However, the real challenge was changing my mindset. I had to learn to see food as fuel rather than something to comfort me. I started to view exercise as a way to reward myself, rather than food. I also found that boxing was a great way to channel my energy and focus on something other than food. My journey has also inspired others to chase their goals and beat their addictions or weight problems. This in itself is a massive win and makes the journey worthwhile.

Learning the Toughest Sport in the World

Boxing is often considered one of the toughest sports in the world, and for good reason. It requires a combination of strength, speed, endurance, and mental toughness. When I first started boxing, I was out of shape and had very little experience in the sport. However, I was determined to learn.

I started by finding a local boxing gym and learning my craft. The first few weeks were tough, both physically and mentally. I struggled to keep up with the other boxers, and my body was sore from the intense workouts. However, I persevered, and eventually, I started to see progress.

Boxing is not just about physical fitness; it also requires mental toughness. I had to learn to push through the pain and keep going, even when I wanted to give up. I also had to learn to trust my instincts and react quickly in the ring.

Tobie as Child
I always loved boxing. Watching boxing with my father on a Saturday night was a great pass time who I sadly lost when I was 15 years old.

From Amateur to Professional

After a year of training, I was ready to start competing as an amateur boxer. It was a nerve-wracking experience, but I was excited to put my skills to the test. I started by competing in local tournaments and gradually worked my way up to national & international competitions like the Hull Box Cup & King of the Ring in Sweden.

Competing as an amateur boxer was a great experience, but my ultimate goal was to turn professional. I knew it would be a difficult journey preparing for the hurt game, but I was determined to make it happen. I continued to train hard and focus on my goal.

In 2023, I will achieve my goal and turn professional. It will a proud moment for me, and I felt like I had accomplished something great so far. However, I also knew that my journey is far from over. I still had a lot to learn and a long way to go before I could be considered a contender and in turn inspire others to do the same.
